LA CROSSE WI GREEN ISLAND PARK TENNIS COMPLEX

The City of La Crosse in partnership with Coulee Region Tennis Association (CRTA), University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and La Crosse Aquinas Catholic Schools started construction of a community tennis complex.  The 19 tennis court site is being built at Green Island Park off South 7th Street in La Crosse, Wisconsin and will include 13 outdoor lighted tennis courts and 6 indoor tennis courts inside a year-round dome.  See aerial rendering below - the building to the west is the current ice arena. Construction of the Phase 1’s 13 outdoor hard surface tennis courts was started in April 2020 with completion September 2020 costing 1.3 million dollars. Lighting of the north 7 outdoor tennis courts and north parking lot have been installed.  Construction of Phase 2’s 6 indoor tennis courts is on hold due to lack of funding for a $4.5 million cost. The fundraising efforts by CRTA for Phase 1 will involve individuals/families, and area businesses/health systems as well as grants. Our goal is $250,000 for Phase 1. This is a lofty goal but we are committed to bringing a tennis facility to our community that would be among the best in the State of Wisconsin.

The Green  Island  Park  Tennis Complex will  provide  a  home base  for  the  La Crosse Team Tennis Association (LTTA) adult recreational league, United States Tennis Association (USTA) adult leagues, USTA Junior Team Tennis and youth programming, and area social groups. This complex will also benefit local scholastic tennis programs at the middle school, high school, and collegiate levels with home courts for the University  of  Wisconsin - La Crosse’s  Men and  Women  Division 3  Tennis Teams and La Crosse Aquinas Catholic Schools. This site will allow schools to host invitationals along with regional and national level events.

All will benefit year-round with expanded play indoors in the winter and outdoors with lighted courts. The complex and its staff will also allow for new opportunities to the area with adapted programs, wheelchair tennis, veterans’ recreational therapy, tournaments, and Tennis-On-Campus besides expanding youth and adult programming throughout the year. The community will benefit in other ways by visiting schools, tournaments, and events stimulating our local economy filling our hotels, restaurants, and retail stores. Revenue generated from the facility users will maintain the complex in resurfacing courts and dome utilities. A tennis complex plus the area’s other recreational opportunities of biking, boating, and hiking will attract people to live and work in the Coulee Region.

Much of the Green Island Park Tennis Complex project is dependent on significant contributions from each of the partners involved.  We need your help to make this project a reality.  We hope you will provide support for this tennis complex that will not only meet the current needs of our community but will continue to do so for the next generation of players.  Tennis is truly a Lifetime Sport and this facility will ensure the La Crosse area to be a leader in tennis play, instruction, and enjoyment for years to come.
